On16May1770,the14-year-oldMarieAntoinettewasmarriedtotheFrenchDauphin,whowasshyandplump.Attheformaldinnerthatfollowedtheweddingceremony,LouixXVtoldtheDauphintoeatless.Hereplied,"Why?IalwayssleepbetterwhenIhaveafullstomach."
Theyoungcouplewasconductedtotheirbed,whichhadbeenblessedbytheArchbishopofReims.However,onlyoneyearhersenior,theDauphinhadnothadanysexualorromanticexperiencetopreparehimfordealingwithhiswife,andtheirmarriagewasnotconsummatedandwouldnotbeforseveralyears.TheproblemmayhavehadtodowithMarieAntoinette'snarrownessofpassage,causingintercoursetobepainfulanddifficult.Thecouple'sfirstchildwasborninDecember1778.
一七七○年五月十六日，十四歲的瑪麗．安唐妮和肥胖害臊的法國儲君成親。婚禮後的喜筵上，路易十五叫儲君少吃一點，他回答：「為什麼？我吃飽了，會睡得好些。」
那對新婚夫婦被帶到牀前。那張牀事先獲蘭斯大主教祝福。但儲君比瑪麗．安唐妮只大一歲，完全沒有性交或戀愛經驗，對着妻子不知道該怎麼辦。他們那天沒有圓房，其後幾年也沒有。問題大概在於瑪麗．安唐娜陰道狹窄，令性交困難並有痛楚。兩夫婦一七七八年十二月才生下第一個孩子。
【附注】那法國儲君就是日後的路易十六。一七八九年，法國大革命爆發；路易十六和王后瑪麗．安唐妮一七九三年先後被送上斷頭臺。
