近來證券界常用「板塊」來說某一行業的股票，似是大陸用語，英文怎麼說？
「板塊」本是地質學詞語，指地殼分裂而成的巨塊，英文叫plate，例如：Mountainchainsareformedwherecontinentalplatescollide（大陸板塊相撞處，會形成山脈），同一行業的股票叫「板塊」，不是讀者說，我還沒聽過。新中國的現代漢語不是我所能理解的。
至於英文，同一行業的股票叫sector，有oilstocksector（石油業股票）、goldstocksector（金礦業股票）、publishingstocksector（出版業股票）等，例如：Mercuryturnedinoneofthebestperformancesinthetelecomstocksectorin2006（二○○六年，麥丘利在電信業股票之中表現十分突出）。圓形的一截，英文也叫sector，或譯「扇形」。也許「板塊」就是sector的現代漢語譯法吧。
貴欄說agatheringthatmarksthe10thanniversary（紀念十週年的聚會）可略作agatheringmarkingthe10thanniversary；然則thenamethatisshownintheletter（信中所示名字）可不可略作thenameshowingintheletter？
用分詞（participle）取代「that/which/who/whom子句（clause）」的原則是：子句動詞是主動語態（activevoice），代以現在分詞（presentparticiple，即ing動詞）；子句動詞是被動語態（passivevoice），代以過去分詞（pastparticiple，即完成式動詞）。例如aletterthatshowshisname（顯示他名字的信）可略作alettershowinghisname；aboxwhichishiddeninthejungle（藏在叢林中的盒子）可略作aboxhiddeninthejungle。Thenamethatisshownintheletter也就是thenameshownintheletter。
