《南華早報》最近報道新發行的十元塑膠鈔票，標題是Samecolour,samedesign,earlybirdssoldonplasticnotes，那是什麼意思？
Earlybird（早到的鳥）指「早到者」，出自成語Itistheearlybirdthatcatchestheworm：「早起的鳥會捕到蟲」就是「捷足先登」的意思。
Besoldon是俗語，指「很喜歡」或「認為很好」，例如：Peterissoldonhisnewcar,whichhesaysisfarbetterthananyofhispreviousones（彼得很喜歡他那輛新車，說比他以前的任何一輛都好得多）。
《南華早報》那標題的意思就是：「同樣顏色，同樣設計，早來換取塑膠鈔票者十分喜歡。」
「幾百」、「幾千」是severalhundreds和severalthousands，「幾十」英文卻應怎麼說？
首先要說的，是hundred（百）、thousand（千）、million（百萬）、billion（十億）等字，用在afew、several等限定詞（determiner）或數字之後，不可加s，例如afewthousandpeople（幾千人）、thethreehundredSpartans（斯巴達三百壯士）等。Severalhundreds這說法是錯誤的，不過，hundred、thousand等字之前假如沒有限定詞或數字，則可用複數形式，其後帶「of+複數名詞」，例如：Therearethousandsofpeople（人數以千計）。
至於「幾十」，則可用ten（十）、dozen（一打）、score（二十）等字來說，例如：（1）Ispottedseveraldozentypos/severalscoreoftyposinthedocument（我發覺文件裏有幾十處打字錯誤）。（2）Scores/Dozens/Tensofpeoplewereinjured（有好幾十人受了傷）。
