「非筆墨所能形容」英文怎麼說？
英文beggar一字指「乞丐」，轉作動詞，是「使貧乏」的意思，例如：HewasbeggaredbytheAsianeconomicstormof1997（一九九七年亞洲金融風暴令他一貧如洗）。把「使貧乏」的意思引伸，tobeggar(all)description（使形容的詞語貧乏）就是「非筆墨所能形容」，例如：Thescenerywassobeautifulthatitsimplybeggaredalldescription（風景美麗得簡直非筆墨所能形容）。
「難以置信」、「難以想像」，也可用beggar一字來說，例如：（1）Thedefendant'saccountoftheincidentbeggared(all)belief（被告所述案情簡直難以置信）。（2）Theinhumannatureofthetotalitarianregimebeggarsimagination（那極權政府之殘酷，非人所能想像）。
Compellingreasons和convincingreasons有什麼分別？
Compel有「強迫」、「迫使」含義，convince則是「使信服」。Compellingreasons（使人不得不接受的原因）和convincingreasons（使人信服的原因）往往可以通用，但嚴格而言也有點分別，例如：（1）Myearningshavedroppedby30%,andsothereisacompellingreasonformetomovetoasmallerapartment（我的收入減少了百分之三十，因此有必要搬到較小的公寓套房居住）。（2）Hecouldgivenoconvincingreasonsforhishypothesis（他這個假設並沒有令人信服的理由）。（3）Doeshehaveacompelling/convincingreasonforthemove?（他此舉有什麼不能否定的原因嗎？）第一句不宜用convincing，第二句用convincing應比compelling好一點，第三句則用convincing或compelling都差不多。
