貴欄有例句說：Itisworthfightingforthiscause（這目標值得我們為之奮鬥）。福勒（HenryFowler1858-1933）的ModernEnglishUsage認為這句式錯誤，但這「錯誤」句式今天是不是已經通用？
謹先說福勒否定上述句式的原因。英文句子常把作主詞（subject）的片語（phrase）、子句（clause）置於句末，而用it字取代，例如把Repairingthewronghehaddonewasnoteasy改為Itwasnoteasyrepairingthewronghehaddone（糾正他犯的錯誤並不容易）。同樣，Itisworthfightingforthiscause等於Fightingforthiscauseisworth。福勒認為worth之後不能沒有受詞（object），而上述句式的worth之後卻沒有，所以文法不對。
福勒固然是著名英文學者，那分析也不無道理，但語文用法有時不受道理約束。Itisworthfightingforthiscause的句式，見於第六版《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》：Itisworthmakinganappointmentbeforeyougo（你去之前最好預約）。也見於第四版LongmanDictionaryofContemporaryEnglish:Itisworthcheckingthedetailsofthecontractbeforeyousignit（簽署文件之前，宜先細讀內容）。也見於一九九五年版CambridgeInternationalDictionaryofEnglish:ItisworthrememberingthatpricesgouponFebruary1st（價格將於二月一日提高，這一點要記着）。也見於第三版CollinsCOBUILDEnglishDictionaryforAdvancedLearners:ItisworthpausingtoconsiderthesestatementsfromMrDavies（戴維斯先生這些話值得好好思考）。這句式在福勒時代顯然已經通用，只是他不接受而已。
