「緣分」譯做fate或fatalism可不可以？
英文沒有「緣分」這觀念，要找一個同義詞是不可能的。Fate是「命運」，含義比「緣分」廣；fatalism是「宿命論」，而且常帶「惡運難逃」含義，和「緣分」意思相差更遠，例如：Whenthedoctortoldhimthathehadcancer,heacceptedthenewswithanairoffatalism（醫生說他患了癌症，他聽後，露出聽天由命的神氣）。
然則「緣分」怎樣翻譯？竊以為宜按文意用字。宋朝呂南公有《奉答顧言見寄新句》說：「更使襟靈憎市井，足知緣分在雲山。」俗語說：「有緣千里來相會。」謹把這兩句翻譯於後，以供參考：（1）Withastrongdislikeforworldlysociety,IunderstandthatIwasborntoliveinthecloudymountains。（2）Peoplefatewantstobringtogetherwillmeeteventhoughtheyarethousandsofmilesapart。Borntodosomething即「生來注定做某事」，那是一種緣分；fatethatbringspeopletogether即「使人相會的命運之神」，那相會又是另一種緣分。
ThebattleoftheGranicuswasthefirstofthreemajorbattlesfoughtbetweenAlexandertheGreatandthePersianEmpire（格拉尼克斯河之役，是亞歷山大大帝和波斯帝國三場大戰中的第一場）這一句，threemajorbattles之前可不可加the字？
The一般用來指前文說過或已知的事。Threemajorbattles之前應不應該用the，看看以下兩句應該就會明白：ThreemajorbattleswerefoughtbetweenAlexandertheGreatandthePersianEmpire.Thefirstofthethree（major）battleswasthebattleoftheGranicus。
