Philipthenorderedfifteenchargesofmountedknights,allofwhichwerestoppedbyEnglisharrows.Attheendoftheday,Philiphadlost4000men,whichamountedtoathirdofhisarmy,whilekillinglessthan100Englishmen.
法國國王腓力六世無疑是歷史上少有的無能將領。一三四六年克雷西斯戰役中，用兵無方的腓力殲滅了自己的軍隊。四千個雇傭的熱那亞籍十字弓手奉他命令，向英國陣營進攻，不少死在英國長弓手箭下。腓力看見未死的十字弓手敗退，非常憤怒，下令手下騎士取他們性命。法軍一面格殺和他們同陣線的熱那亞人，英軍就一面亂箭向雙方射去。
跟着，腓力下令騎士衝鋒，前後十五次，每一次都被英軍弓箭手射退。最後，腓力損兵折將四千人，等於軍隊人數三分之一，所殺英軍則不足一百人。
