什麼叫relativepronoun和relativeadverb？
Relative是「關係」、「接連」的意思，例如：Everythingrelativetothismurdercasemustbelookedinto（任何和這宗謀殺案有關的事都要調查）。Relativepronoun（關係代名詞）和relativeadverb（關係副詞）就是可以把兩個子句（clause）接連起來的代名詞和副詞。常見的關係代名詞有who、whom、which、that、whose，關係副詞則有when、where、why、while、whenever、wherever等，例如：（1）Iknowthemanwhosesonwaskilledintheshootingincident（=Iknowtheman.Hissonwaskilledintheshootingincident我認識兒子在槍擊事故中喪生的那個男人）。（2）Thatistheplacewherehelives（=Thatistheplace.Helivesthere那就是他居住的地方）。

Whether（是否）是連接詞（conjunction），經常和另一連接詞or連用，但單獨使用也可以，例如：Iaskedthechildrenwhethertheylikedicecream（我問孩子們愛不愛吃冰淇淋）。這一句還可改寫如下：Iaskedthechildrenwhetherornottheylikedicecream、Iaskedthechildrenwhethertheylikedicecreamornot、Iaskedthechildrenwhethertheylikedicecreamorwhethertheydidn't（likeicecream）。
Whether也可以算是關係副詞。但我始終認為，學英文重要的是掌握各字用法，不一定要細辨其詞類。
