In1941,orderedtodisguisetheentireportofAlexandria,Maskelynebuiltamodelofthecity.Eachnight,themodelwaslitupwhiletherealharbourwasshroudedindarkness.AsGermanbomberszeroedinonthemodel,explosivesweresetofftoenhancetheillusion.Eachmorning,thedecoywascoveredandphoneydebriswasscatteredthroughouttherealport,convincingspiesandpassingplanesthatthebombinghadworked.
Asaresult,AlexandriasufferedlittledamageandremainedinAlliedhands.
第二次世界大戰期間，盟軍邀得著名英國魔術師賈斯珀．馬斯基林相助，在埃及建立偽裝兵團。他用帆布、木材建造了整支軍隊，有坦克、士兵、大腹軍官等，使英軍看來數目大增。
一九四一年，馬斯基林奉命把整個亞歷山大港隱藏起來。他於是做了一個亞歷山大港模型，每天夜幕籠罩港口後，那模型城市就亮起燈來，德國轟炸機來襲時，還會引爆炸藥，使假象更為逼真。每天早上，當局會把模型遮蔽起來，而亞歷山大港則會撒滿假的敗瓦頹垣，使間諜和掠過的飛機以為轟炸得逞。
因此，亞歷山大港受到的破壞不大，德軍始終未能攻取。
