In1914,aHollywoodmotionpicturecompanysignedacontractwithMexicanrevolutionaryleaderPauchoVillainwhichheagreedtofighthisrevolutionaccordingtothestudio'sscenarioinreturnfor$25,000.TheHollywoodcrewwentdowntoMexicoandjoinedVilla'sguerillaforce.ThedirectortoldVillawhereandhowtofighthisbattles.Thecameraman,sincehecouldonlyshootindaylight,madeVillastarthisfightingeverydayat9:00amandstopat4:00pm,sometimesforcingVillatoceasehisrealwarringuntilthecameracouldbemovedtoanewangle.WhenthecompletedfilmwasbroughtbacktoHollywood,itwasfoundtoounbelievabletobereleased,andmostofithadtobereshotonthestudiolot.
一九一四年，好萊塢一家電影公司和麥西哥革命領袖潘喬．維亞簽署合約，給維亞二萬五千元，維亞則答應按照電影腳本情節指揮革命戰爭。好萊塢拍片隊於是南下麥西哥，和維亞的游擊隊結伴。維亞在哪裏以及怎樣作戰，都聽導演號令，而攝影師由於只能在白日拍攝，更要維亞每天上午九時開始戰鬥，到下午四時停止，有時甚至硬要維亞休戰，待他把攝影機移到另一角度，才再動手。電影拍成後，帶回好萊塢，卻因內容太過難以置信，不能放映，大部分須在電影棚內重拍。
【附注】維亞一九一四年和卡蘭薩（VenustianoCarranza）合力推翻獨裁者韋爾塔（VictorianoHuerta）；卡蘭薩當選總統後，維亞又帶領游擊隊反叛。卡蘭薩一九二○年敗亡，維亞則於一九二三年遇刺身死。
