這幀由美國太空總署提供的圖片，顯示一個已死亡了一千年的天體所遺留下的超密中子星。中子星不斷釋出極高能量的粒子，形成風暴，令該天體的殘骸範圍不斷擴大，形成蟹狀星雲。這圖片由太空總署三部太空望遠鏡資料合成，畫面中間的白色點就是中子星，它的質量之高，相等於把太陽擠進一個正在不斷旋轉、寬度只有12英里的中子球裏。
