Duringthesummerof1940theGermanswereconvincedthataninvasionofBritainwasimminent,andeventriedtofilmtheeventinadvance.InearlySeptember,afilmcrewarrivedinAntwerpinnorthernBelgium,andselectedabeachtorepresenttheshoresofsouthernEngland.FortwodaysinvasionbargesdrewintotheshoreandGermansoldiersleapedoutandwadedshorewards,whilelighttankslandedontheesplanadeunderdummyfire.Thefilmcrewexplainedtothepuzzledonlookersthatastherealinvasionwouldtakeplaceatnightitwouldbeimpossibletofilm,andasOperationSeaLionwouldbethedecisiveeventofthewaritwassomethingthatHitlerdidnotwanthispeopletomiss.Sonocostwouldbesparedtomakethefilmasaccurateaspossible.
一九四○年夏天，德國人深信指日就會進侵英國，甚至要預先把戰事拍成電影。九月初，一支電影拍攝隊來到比利時北部安特衞普港，選了個海灘，當作英格蘭南部海岸。其後兩天，進攻駁船源源朝海岸開到，德軍從船上跳下來，涉水登陸，同時，輕型坦克冒着空彈砲火登陸海濱廣場。拍攝隊向莫名其妙的旁觀者解釋說，真正進攻英國會在晚上展開，因此不可能拍攝；而海獅行動將是非常重要的一役，希特勒希望國民看到，所以不惜鉅資，務求電影盡量逼真。
【附注】納粹德軍登陸英國的夢想，和日本皇軍兩個星期征服中國的計劃一樣，成為歷史笑話。Leap是「跳躍」，過去式和完成式是leaped或leapt。今天，無論是英式還是美式英語，leaped都較leapt常用。
