這是最精密的地球觀察衞星，定於昨天（周一）發射到地球軌道，是歐洲氣象衞星15年計劃的一部份，目的是改善天氣預測準確度和對氣候轉變的了解。首三個極地低軌道氣象衞星之一的MetOp-A，於俄羅斯拜科努爾太空中心發射，是同類衞星最精密的一種，備用十多種儀器測量天氣和傳送數據資料。
