Autumn什麼時候須用大寫？
說星期幾、月份、節日名稱等，英文習慣用大寫，例如Sunday（星期天）、January（一月）、Christmas（聖誕節）。季節從前也用大寫，但現代英文一般不用，所以GodfreyHoward撰寫的TheGoodEnglishGuide說：Thefourseasons（spring,summer,etc）longagolosttheircapitals（春天、夏天等四季早已不用大寫）。
正因Spring、Summer等古英文會大寫，現代英語學者對「季節用不用大寫」意見並不完全統一。RudolfFlesh的ANewGuidetoBetterWriting強調：Donotcapitalizethenamesoftheseasons-unless,ofcourse,theyarethefirstwordsinsentences（季節名稱不要大寫，用來起句則當然例外）。但LGAlexander的LongmanEnglishGrammar卻說：Seasonsareusuallyspeltwithasmallletterbutsometimeswithacapital（四季一般用小寫，有時也用大寫）。換言之，TheywenttoCanadaintheAutumn/autumnof2003（二○○三年秋天，他們去了加拿大）這一句，大寫的Autumn是舊式寫法，現在可能被視為錯誤。
假如用擬人法說季節，則現代英語也會用大寫，例如：ThefallenleavesseemedtomarkthefootstepsofAutumn（那些落葉，似乎標示了秋天的足迹）。
公司名稱英文要不要冠以the字？
公司名稱假如有company、corporation二字，則須加the；但這二字常會略去，那就不用the，例如：HeworksfortheHongkongElectricCompany/HeworksforHongkongElectric（他為香港電燈公司工作）。
