英文有些動詞、形容詞是用來表示「主張怎樣做」的，例如advise、ask、demand、insist、propose、recommend、request、suggest；advisable、anxious、desirable、eager、essential、important、necessary、preferable、vital、willing等。這些字之後的that子句（clause），常用「should+原形動詞（infinitive）」，但should可以略去，例如：（1）Iaskedthathe（should）makeadecisionatonce（我請他馬上下決定）。（2）Iinsistthathe（should）bepunished（我堅持要懲罰他）。（3）Itisimportantthathe（should）knowthetruth（他必須知道真相）。（4）Itwasadvisablethatthey（should）beinformedassoonaspossible（他們最好盡快獲得通知）。
有時，你會看到that子句用普通時式動詞，例如HeaskedthatthechocolatetinwassenttotheQueen、Itisimportantthatheknowsthetruth等。但這種說法略嫌隨便，也沒有「（should）原形動詞」那麼常用。
IamMaryChanoftheMercuryCompany和IamMaryChanfromtheMercuryCompany有什麼分別？
這兩句其實都是說「我是麥丘利公司的陳瑪麗」，但of強調「屬於」，from指「來自」。謹再舉一例：ProfessorWilson,of/fromtheUniversityofBabel,isonthecommittee。這是說「巴別大學威爾遜教授是委員會成員」，只是of、from含義不同而已。
