Ononeoccasion,PrivateJamesHumphrey,ofthe2ndRoyalLancasterRegiment,creditedtheQueen'schocolatetinwithsavinghislifeandaskedthatitbesenttotheQueen."Hadthebulletnotbeenstoppedbythechocolate,"adoctortestified,"itwouldundoubtedlyhavepassedthroughthisstructureintotheabdomenandhavecausedafatalwound."SirArthurBigge,thePrincipalMedicalOfficer,sentthetinofchocolatewiththebulletstillinittotheQueenwithanotesaying,"YourMajestywoulddoubtlesswishanothertintobesenttoPrivateHumphrey."
第二次布爾戰爭期間，英國一家公司代維多利亞女王寄贈其「親愛勇敢的士兵」每人一罐巧克力。罐上有女王肖像，並綑着紅、白、藍緞帶。
皇家蘭卡斯特第二兵團有個二等兵叫詹姆斯．韓福瑞，曾說女王的巧克力罐救了他一命，要求把罐子寄到御前。有醫生作證說：「子彈要不是被巧克力擋住，一定會射穿罐子，進入腹部，傷人奪命。」醫務主任亞瑟．比格爵士把那罐巧克力寄上女王，罐裏還留着那顆子彈，附呈字條說：「陛下無疑有意再贈二等士兵韓福瑞巧克力一罐。」
【附注】兩次布爾戰爭（1880-1902）都是英國在南非的殖民地戰爭。Private是階級最低的士兵，又作privatesoldier，簡寫是Pte，例如PteHumphrey。
