AnannualcelebrationofcollaborationsineducationbetweenHKandtheUK（香港與英國教育事業合作之每年一度慶典）一語，為什麼UK之前用the，HK卻不用？國家或城鎮等冠以the字，有規則可循嗎？
國家、城鎮名稱，一般不用冠詞（article）a、an、the。不過，假如國名帶republic（共和國）、kingdom（王國）、union（聯邦）等普通名詞（commonnoun），或是用複數形式，則要加the字，例如theIrishRepublic（愛爾蘭共和國）、theRepublicofChina（中華民國）、theMiddleKingdom（中國）、theByzantineEmpire（東羅馬帝國）、theSovietUnion（蘇聯）、thePhilippines（菲律賓）、theUnitedstates（美國）、theNetherlands（荷蘭）等。但假如叫荷蘭做Holland，則不必加the，例如：HaveyoueverbeentoHolland/theNetherlands？（你有沒有去過荷蘭？）留意theUnitedstates等習慣配單數形式動詞，例如：IsthePhilippinesademocracy？（菲律賓是不是民主國家？）
此外有幾個國家的名字比較特殊，要加the:theUkraine（烏克蘭）、theVatican（梵蒂岡）、theGambia（甘比亞）。
Youarewelcome是「歡迎你」，Youaremorethanwelcome是歡迎還是不歡迎？
Youaremorethanwelcome即「非常歡迎你」。Morethan用在形容詞、名詞之前，有「非常」、「不止是」含義，例如：（1）Iwasmorethanannoyedbytheirloudtalkinthelibrary（他們在圖書館裏高聲說話，令我非常不滿）。（2）Gandhiwasmorethanastatesman.Hewasasaint（甘地不止是政治家，更是位聖人）。
