Afewyearslater,fightingontheislandofMartinique,Pakenhamwashitbyaspentbulletontheothersideofhisneck,whichhadtheeffectofstraighteningitoutandallowinghimtocarryhisheadnormally.
However,Pakenham'sluckranoutin1815,whenhewaskilledduringtheBritishdefeatatNewOrleans.
命運很奇怪，有時會重演一件事。一八○三年六月二十一日，英軍攻佔加勒比海法屬聖路西亞島。交戰時，愛德華．帕克南上校被一粒餘勢將盡的子彈打中脖子，顯然傷了一條神經，頭從此得側向一邊。
幾年後，帕克南在馬提尼克島上作戰，又被一粒餘勢將盡子彈打中脖子另一邊。這一擊把脖子扶正了，頭也恢復正常位置。
不過，一八一五年，帕克南不再獲命運之神眷顧，新奧爾良一役，英軍敗北，他也戰死沙場。
【附注】帕克南是威靈頓公爵的姻親。聖路西亞和馬提尼克兩次戰役，英軍對手都是法軍；新奧爾良之役，對手則是美軍。
