Ihavereadandunderstand/understoodthecontentsofthisagreement（本協議的內容我已經閱讀，也都明白）一語，應說understand還是understood？
Understand、understood兩字都可以用。Ihavereadandunderstand等於IhavereadandIunderstand，那understand指現在對協議內容了然於胸，着重目前不變的情況；Ihavereadandunderstood則等於IhavereadandIhaveunderstood，那haveunderstood指讀後已經明白內容，着重明白的過程。IverifybymysignaturebelowthatIhavereadandunderstand/understoodtheStaffRegulations即「謹簽名於後，確認我已經閱讀並且明白職員條例」。句子無論用understand還是understood，意思其實都沒有不同。
不過，用and接連的動詞，時式變動，往往會改變句子的意思。最近有讀者來信問：Shelikestorunandswim是說「她喜歡跑步、游泳」，然則Shecouldn'tconcentrateandfellasleep為甚麼不可解作「她不能集中精神，不能入睡」？
答案就在fell字。要說「不能入睡」，fell應改作fall，即Shecouldn'tconcentrateandshecouldn'tfallasleep。但原文用過去式的fell，表示這個動詞不受couldn't管轄，即Shecouldn'tconcentrateandshefellasleep，所以句子應解作「她無法集中精神，昏昏沉沉睡着了」。讀英文，必須留意動詞時式，否則往往就會誤解。
