一九一四年，德國巡洋艦埃姆登號功業彪炳，大名藉藉，不列顛以及整個英帝國家喻戶曉，甚至有廣告商利用其輝煌成就。例如商船印度河號運送一百五十箱肥皂，途中被埃姆登號截查。一分印度報紙其後刊登這段古怪廣告：「德國巡洋艦埃姆登號無疑得悉印度河號運載一百五十箱西北肥皂公司著名幸福牌肥皂，遂追逐於海上。埃姆登號全體人員及其衣著，現皆清潔芳香，實幸福牌肥皂之力也，君胡不試之！」
