Who、whom、which、that等關係代名詞（relativepronoun），一般宜緊接所代表的名詞，即文法上說的antecedent（前述詞）。例如「我在地窖找到的斧頭鏽斑點點」這一句，應寫作TheaxewhichIfoundinthecellarwasspeckedwithrust，不宜說TheaxewasspeckedwithrustwhichIfoundinthecellar。
不過，前述詞和關係代名詞之間加插一些字有時是可以的；這些字一般修飾前述詞，不宜改置於句子其他地方，例如英國名作家毛姆（WilliamSomersetMaugham）寫過這樣一句：LarrytoldmethestoryoftheyoungairmanwhichInarratedatthebeginningofthebook（本書開頭講述的年輕飛行員故事，是賴利告訴我的）。這一句的which就不直接前述詞story。讀者示下那一句並沒有錯。
Youguys這說法，是不是應改為theguysofyou?
我不知道theguysofyou是甚麼意思，但youguys（你們這些傢伙）是常見說法，不可更改。英文常在you、we之後加個名詞，例如：（1）Nowlisten,youpeople（好了，你們聽着）。（2）Westudentsareagainstthenewregulation（我們學生反對這新條例）。
