美國駐聯合國代表阿德萊．史蒂文生一九六三年往訪德州達拉斯市，一群示威者迎着他嘲罵。群眾有點失控。一個女人用示威牌打中史蒂文生頭顱，一個男人還打了他一記耳光。
警察要拘捕那兩名示威者，控以襲擊他人罪，但被史蒂文生阻止。史蒂文生不想那兩人受到懲罰。他後來說：「我不想送他們入獄；我想，送他們上學會好一點。」
【解說】史蒂文生曾兩度競選美國總統，均告失敗。他在達拉斯遇襲之後一個月，美國總統甘迺迪即在達拉斯遇襲身亡。
