Foronereasonoranother一語，讀報經常看到，究竟是甚麼意思？
One...oranother這說法，常用來表示「某些」，但這「某些」是甚麼，卻未能肯定或不想說出。例如：（1）Ideclinedalltheinvitationsononepretextoranother（我用種種藉口，把各方的邀請都推卻了）。（2）TheUSgovernmentinsistedthatSaddamHusseinhadtiesofonekindoranotherwithterroristgroups（美國政府堅稱，薩達姆和恐怖組織有這樣那樣的關係）。（3）Wemustinonewayoranotherletthegovernmentknowthatweareangry（無論如何，我們要使政府明白我們憤怒了）。
Foronereasonoranother就是用上述句法，意思是「由於某個原因」，例如：Foronereasonoranother,Idon'ttrusthim（原因很難說，但我就是不信任他）。
ThatisthelastthingIwanttohear是甚麼意思？
Thelast常用來說「最不……的」，包括最不想聽到或看到的、最不適合的、最不可能的等等。例如：（1）HeisthelastpersontospeakillofMary（他絕對不會說瑪麗壞話）。（2）JapanisthelastcountryIwouldliketovisit（日本是我最不想去的國家）。（3）DianawasthelastwomanIcouldimaginehewouldmarry（我絕對沒有想到他會和黛安娜結婚）。讀者示下的一句，就是說「那是我最不想聽到的事情」。
