IlikeTombetterthananyoftheotherstudents（我喜歡湯姆，過於他任何一個同學）一語，anyoftheotherstudents可不可以改為anyotherstudents？
首先要說的，是anyother之後可用複數名詞，也可用單數。例如「還有其他學生想去嗎？」這一句，不限於一個學生，就應以複數為言：Doanyotherstudentswanttogo?但「我喜歡湯姆，過於其他任何一個學生」，則應用單數名詞：IlikeTombetterthananyotherstudent。
留意anyotherstudent是「其他任何一個學生」，不限於某一班或某一學校的學生；anyoftheotherstudents則是「其他那些學生之中的任何一個」，限定為湯姆的同學，可見兩個說法意思有點不同，頗似astudent（一個學生）和thestudent（那個學生）：astudent沒有指定是哪個學生，thestudent則有。
