Wouldrather和hadrather有甚麼分別？
Wouldrather、hadrather都是「寧願」的意思，用法也沒有分別。不過，hadrather今天比較少用，一般人說的是wouldrather。
Wouldrather之後，可用原形動詞（infinitive）；要說寧取甲不取乙，可用than把乙帶出，例如：（1）Iwould/hadrathernotseeher（我不想見到她）。（2）Iwouldratherwatchtelevisionthangotothemovies（我寧願看電視，不看電影）。
Wouldrather之後，也可用「名詞?代名詞＋動詞」，表示「寧願某某怎樣做」。那動詞須用假設語態，即說現在就用過去式（pasttense），說過去則用過去完成式（pastperfecttense），例如：（1）IwouldratherTomdidnotseeher（我不想湯姆和她見面）。（2）IwouldratherTomhadnotseenher（我寧願湯姆沒有和她見面）。第一句顯示湯姆還未見到她，第二句則顯示湯姆見過她了。
和would/hadrather意思、用法相同的，有would/hadsooner，例如：（1）Iwould/hadsoonerkeepadogthanacat（我寧願養狗，不養貓）。（2）I'dsooneryoudidn'tknowwhoIam（我寧願你不知道我是誰）。（3）Iwouldsooneryouhadnottoldherthetruth（我寧願你沒有把真相告訴她）。
