「蓮子心中苦，梨兒腹裏酸」怎樣翻譯？
這副對聯，據說是清初金聖歎臨刑時對兒子口占的作品。「蓮」、「梨」和「連」、「離」音同，語帶雙關，英文稱為pun，例如：（1）Hepunnedwhenhesaid,“Ican'taffordaFord”（他說「我afford（買）不起aFord（福特汽車）」，是語帶雙關的）。（2）“Ican'taffordaFord”isapunthatdefiestranslation（Ican'taffordaFord是雙關語，無法翻譯）。
不同語文的同義詞，一般都有不同讀音，所以，要把雙關語的音、義一起譯出，幾乎是不可能的。金聖歎那一聯，能夠譯出六成神韻，已堪稱神人了。雙關語可譯的百無一二，我不會嘗試，也不希望讀者浪費心力嘗試。
Corner（角落）應配介系詞（preposition）at還是in？
In和at/on三個介系詞，都可以和corner連用，但所表示的位置不同。試以L形為言，假如你站在L那個角落之內，Youarestandinginthecorner；假如你站在角落之外，即轉角處，Youarestandingat/onthecorner。所以，英文一般會說inacorneroftheroom（在房間的角落裏）或at/onacornerofthestreet（街道拐角處）。
此外還有round/aroundthecorner這說法，即「繞過角落」或「繞過角落就是?就在附近」，例如：（1）Hedroveroundthecorner（他開車繞過角落）。（2）Winterisjustroundthecorner（冬天快來了）。
