八月二十日貴欄說toopinethat（認為）可以改為tobeofopinionthat。查字典，似乎只有tobeoftheopinionthat的說法，先生是否漏了the字？
我遍查《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》、《朗文當代高級詞典》、CollinsCOBUILDEnglishDictionary等，果然都只見tobeoftheopinionthat這說法，但tobeofopinionthat雖然較為少見，卻同樣是正確說法。張道真編的《現代英語用法詞典》就徵引了名詩人葉慈（WilliamButlerYeats）書信集裏一句話：AtfirstIwasofopinionthatyouweredecidedlyright（最初，我以為你毫無疑問是對的）。陸谷孫《英漢大詞典》opinion條下也有beof（the）opinion（that）一語，可見用不用the字，意思都沒有分別。
The字可用可不用的成語，還有in（the）lightof（鑑於），例如：In（the）lightofwhatyousaid,we'dbetterstayathome（照你所說，我們還是留在家中較好）。
IsawTomtheotherday是甚麼意思？
Theotherday即「幾天前」或「最近」，例如：Ihadaletterfromhimonlytheotherday（我幾天前才收到他的信）。IsawTomtheotherday是說「我幾天前見過湯姆」。此外，你還可說theotherweek（兩三個星期之前）、theothermorning（早幾天上午）、theotherevening/night（早幾天晚上）等，例如：Imethimtheothereveningatthepark（我早幾天晚上在公園裏碰到他）。
