看電影《中國匣》，見女主角張曼玉說GivemefourteenhundredsandI'lltellyoueverything（給我一千四百元，我就甚麼都告訴你）。究竟「一千四百」是onethousandandfourhundreds還是fourteenhundreds？
首先要說的，是用在數字或several、afew等字之後，dozen（打）、hundred（百）、thousand（千）、million（百萬）、billion（十億）等不可加s，所以不可能有fourteenhundreds這個說法，那位讀者也許是聽錯了。不過，假如是說「數以百計」等而沒有說出準確數目，那麼，hundred等字即須加s，例如：Millionsofpeoplewerekilledinthewar（數以百萬計的人死於戰火）。
另一點須留意的，是and在數字之中的用法。根據英式英語，and只用在個位或十位數字之前；美式英語則一律不用and，例如2,500英美都說twothousandfivehundred，2,050則英國人會說twothousandandfifty，美國人會說twothousandfifty。張曼玉那一句，應改為GivemeonethousandfourhundreddollarsandI'lltellyoueverything，不可說onethousandandfourhundreds等等。改說fourteenhundreddollars也可以。1,100至1,900之間的整數，經常都用這個較隨便的說法。例如：Atleasttwelvehundredpeopletookpartinthedemonstration（至少有一千二百人參加示威）。說年份，英文更常用這說法，例如1997年是nineteen（hundredand）ninety-seven。
