Detail一字，甚麼時候須用單數形式，甚麼時候用複數？
最簡單的答案是：說「每個項目或細節」，detail用單數形式；「不止一個項目或細節」，則用複數形式，例如：（1）Hetoldmeeverysingledetail/allthedetailsofthecase（他把事件詳情一一?全部告訴了我）。（2）Pleasepayattentiontothedetailsofthecontract（請留意合約的細則）。
說「欲悉詳情」，那詳情當然不止一項，所以for（full/further）details這成語用了複數形式，例如：Forfurtherdetails,pleasecontactthepersonneldepartment（其他詳情請向人事部查詢）。「個人資料」則是personaldetails，例如：Letmehaveallhisdetails（把所有關於他的資料都給我）。
但detail也可以是不可數名詞（uncountablenoun），指不大重要的細節或泛指詳情，例如：Thereistoomuchdetailinyoursummary（你寫的摘要太多沒用的細節）。Tohaveaneyefordetail是「微末的事都留意到」，Attentiontodetailisamust是「必須注意細節」。
此外有兩個成語不可不識。第一，indetail是「詳細地」，不論有多少詳情都不可說indetails，例如：Theydiscussedthematteringreatdetail（他們詳細討論這件事）。第二，go/enterintodetail(s)是「詳述」，那detail用單複數形式都可以，例如：Thereisnoneedtogointodetail(s)（細節不必講了）。
