One當然比a好。
A往往和one差不多，例如「我等了一小時」可以說Iwaitedforan/onehour，「我叫了你一百次不要那樣做」可以說Ihaveaskedyoua/onehundredtimesnottodothat。
不過，one是數目字，用於計算，a卻不是計算用的。回答Howmany?（多少？）這類問題，當然要用one而不用a。Thereisanelephantinthezoo是說動物園裏有大象看，Thereisoneelephantinthezoo則是說動物園裏只有一隻大象。
回答Howmanypassengerswerehurt?（乘客有多少人受傷？），可用one字：Onepassengerwashurt;theothersescapedinjury（一名乘客傷了，其餘的沒事）。回答Whofoundthebomb?（發現炸彈的是誰？），則可用a字：Apassengerfoundthebomb（是一名乘客發現的）。
Apassengerfoundthebomb是回答Whofoundthebomb?然則Thereisapen應是回答Whatisthere?（有甚麼？）A和one的分別，那位英文課本作者實應細辨。
