「Despite和inspite兩字有甚麼分別？」
英文沒有inspite這個字，只有inspiteof一詞。論語氣，despite比inspiteof謹嚴，但意思沒有分別，都可譯做「雖然」或「不顧」，例如：Inspiteof/Despitemountingpublicdiscontent,thegovernmentisdeterminedtopushthebillthrough（雖然公眾不滿越來越強烈，政府還是執意要通過議案）。
有時，我們會看到despiteofmountingpublicdiscontent之類說法，但despite之後加of，一般視為鄙俗甚至不正確，不宜仿效。
Inspiteof或despite之後必須用名詞或動名詞（gerund），不能接普通子句（clause），例如不可說Despitethepublicisgettingincreasinglydiscontented，只能說Despitethefactthatthepublicisgettingincreasinglydiscontented。不過，inspiteof/despitethefactthat這句式雖然正確，卻嫌累贅，最好用although一字取代，例如：Althoughthepublicisgettingincreasinglydiscontented,thegovernmentisdeterminedtopushthebillthrough。
英文有inspiteof/despiteoneself這說法，意思是「不由自主」或「不禁」，例如：HerwordsweresosatiricalthatIlostmytemperinspiteofmyself（她的話尖酸刻薄得令我忍不住發脾氣）。
留意spite這個字單獨使用時，往往解作「惡意」，和inspiteof不同，例如：Shediditoutofspite（她那樣做是出於惡意的）。
