一位讀者來信，說CollinsCOBUILDEnglishDictionarywelcome條下有以下例句：(1)Nominationsfromorganisationsarewelcomed（歡迎各機構提名）。(2)Youwillalwaysbewelcometocomeback（隨時歡迎你回來）。他不明白為甚麼第一句用welcomed，第二句則用welcome。
我只能說第一句的welcomed應改為welcome。事實上，CollinsCOBUILD第二版已經刪去這樣的例句。
Welcome既可以做形容詞，也可以做動詞。說某人或事物受歡迎，應用形容詞，例如awelcomeguest（受歡迎的客人）、awelcomerain（喜雨）等等。而正如abeautifulwoman（美女）可改為thewomanisbeautiful一樣，awelcomeguest等也可改為theguestiswelcome之類，那welcome不得加d。
Welcome作動詞，則是指歡迎的行為。例如在門口歡迎人家，英文是Iwelcomedhimatthedoor；改用被動語態(passivevoice)，則是Hewaswelcomedatthedoor。歡迎人家的典禮是awelcomingceremony；改為awelcomeceremony（受歡迎的典禮），即覺不知所謂了。
英文回答人家道謝的常用語Youarewelcome（別客氣），當然也不可改為Youarewelcomed。
形容詞welcome之後可接「to+原形動詞(infinitive)」，也可接名詞，例如：(1)Youarewelcometousemycomputer。(2)Youarewelcometomycomputer（歡迎使用我的電腦）。
