一位讀者來信，說讀到這樣一句英文：HongKongshowsanamazingreluctancewhenitcomestoimplementingthereforms（香港顯然極不願意實施改革，令人奇怪）。「請問toimplementing是不是應改為toimplement？」不是。
Cometo（到達）之後一般用名詞，例如TheycametoHongKong（他們來到香港）。現代西式中文常有「達成協議」之類說法，是直譯英文的cometoanagreement等等，那自然是cometo含義的引伸，agreement也是名詞。
Whenitcomestosomething是英文習用語，意思是「談到某事」或「至於」，例如：Whenitcomestopolitics,hecanbeverystubborn（政治上，他有時很頑固）。假如whenitcomesto之後不用名詞，就得用implementing之類動名詞（gerund），例如：Whenitcomestowriting,Iamatotalnovice（說到寫作，我完全沒有經驗）。
另一位讀者也來信，說常見devotedto（專心從事）、priorto（在……之前）等字之後用動名詞，不知「to+動名詞」、「to+原形動詞（infinitive）」二者用法怎樣分辨。答案和上文一樣：to之後假如可接名詞，就須用動名詞，否則就用原形動詞，例如Heisdevotedtoenvironmentalprotection/protectingtheenvironment（他致力保護環境）。但Hewantedtoprotecttheenvironment可不能改為Hewantedtoenvironmentalprotection/protectingtheenvironment。
