一位讀者來信，問Theproceduresaresimilartothoseoftheboarders（程序和宿生的程序相似）一語，boarders一字之後要不要加撇號（apostrophe）。
答案當然是不用。
比較同類事物，英文往往會用that或those做代名詞，以免重複一個名詞，例如：TheclimateofHongKongispracticallythesameasthat（=theclimate）ofMacao（香港的氣候和澳門幾無分別）、Hischildrenaretallerthanthose（=thechildren）ofmyaunt（他的孩子比我姑母的要高）。那of是「屬於」的意思，不必再用表示「屬於」的撇號或's。
當然，英文有雙重所有格（doublegenitive），即of和's之類同時使用，例如afriendofmysister's/hers（我妹妹的/她的一個朋友）、afollowerofHitler's/his（希特勒的/他的一個追隨者）等。這往往有「其中之一」含義，即我妹妹不止有一個朋友，希特勒也不止有一個追隨者。假如改為mysister'sfriend、Hitler'sfollower等，則是指一個特別重要的朋友或追隨者。留意英文也可以說afriendofmysister或afollowerofHitler，但不可說afriendofher或afollowerofhim。
此外，雙重所有格可用於a、this、these、that、those、any、some等字帶出的名詞，但不能用the，例如可以說AnybookofTom'swilldo（湯姆任何一本書都可以），卻不能說ThebookofTom'swilldo。讀者所說那一句，those等於theprocedures，自然不能用雙重所有格。
