一位讀者來信，問的又是冠詞（article）用法：「『到達現場』英文是arrivescene還是arrivethescene？」
兩個說法都不是。正確說法是arriveonthescene，只說onthescene也可以，例如：Thepolicewereonthescene（=arrivedonthescene）withinminutes（警員幾分鐘之內就到達現場）。解作「現場」的scene須配the字，這不必多說，值得說的倒是常見誤用的arrive。
Arrive是不及物（intransitive）動詞，其後不可接名詞，名詞須用at、in、或on帶出。說到達一個小的地方，多用at字，例如toarriveatShatin/theairport/thehotel（到達沙田/機場/旅館）等等。用於比喻，說達到某階段或成就某些事物，也用at，例如toarriveatmanhood（長大成人）、toarriveataconclusion/decision/agreement（得到結論/下決定?取得協議）等。
Arrivein則是指到達較大的地方，例如toarriveinHongKong/China（到達香港/中國）。此外，有些名詞習慣和on連用，例如toliveontheisland/thecoastofEngland（居於島上/英國海岸）等，arrive也須用on:toarriveontheisland/thecoastofEngland。
留意home（家）、here（這裏）、there（那裏）等是副詞（adverb）而不是名詞，可直接用在arrive之後，切勿加to、in等，例如：WhenIarrivedhome,mywiferefusedtoletmein（我回到家門，妻子不放我進去）。但假如改說myhome，則home是名詞，須用at帶出：WhenIarrivedatmyhome...。
